Our founding piece. A structured daily tote in full grain Tuscan calf, sized to hold a 15-inch laptop without surrendering its line. The base is double-stitched; the handles are wrapped by hand around a core of laminated leather for a feel that softens but never collapses.
A compact crossbody cut from a single shoulder of full grain calf, dyed through in a deep bordeaux that deepens to oxblood over eighteen months of wear. The strap is adjustable in seven positions and removable, so the bag may be carried as an evening clutch.
Our most architectural piece. A satchel with a hand-bonded frame that holds its domed silhouette whether the bag is empty or full. The onyx patina is achieved through three rounds of aniline dye and a final hand-rub of beeswax — a process that takes one full day per bag.
Our atelier sits on the third floor of a 19th-century building on Via dei Fossi, two blocks from the Arno. It is not a museum. It is a working floor of seventeen artisans — eight cutters, six stitchers, two edge-painters, and one master who has been with us since the first bag in 2014.
Each hide is selected in person from a tannery in San Miniato, twenty minutes south. We reject roughly forty percent of what we see. The hides that pass are tagged with the date, the tannery batch, and the name of the cutter assigned — a record that travels with the bag.
A single Noir Tote passes through six pairs of hands over the course of nine working days. We do not rush. We do not outsource. When a stitch is wrong, it is removed and re-done. The bag you receive is the bag we would carry ourselves.
Full grain is the top layer of the hide, with the original grain intact. It is the strongest, most breathable, and most expensive cut — and the only one we use. The surface retains the natural markings of the animal: a brand, a scratch, a vein. These are not flaws. They are the signature of a real hide.
We do not correct, buff, or emboss our leather. We do not use top grain, split leather, or bonded leather, even as lining. The interior of every BellaFocus bag is the same full grain hide as the exterior, in a softer tan — so the bag wears evenly, inside and out.
What this means in practice: the bag you buy today will not look new in five years. It will look yours. The leather will darken at the handles, soften at the corners, and develop a patina that cannot be replicated. This is the point.
